What is so special about Large Black Hogs?
Under the Sun Farm is dedicated to raising premium pastured pork and preserving Large Black Hogs, a rare heritage breed.
Large Black Hogs are known for micro-marbled, moist meat that is extra tender resulting from short muscle fiber. And, they are famous for exceptional bacon!
Large Black Hogs are especially well suited to pasture with a strong foraging and grazing ability and due to the fact they will graze with minimal rooting. Despite their large size, they are characterized by a calm docile temperament.
Large Black Hogs were a popular breed in the late 1800s, but fell out of favor becoming nearly extinct in the 1960s due to their poor ability to withstand confinement. The Livestock Conservancy includes Large Black Hogs on their critical preservation status list.
